A PADI Divemaster exhibits a high level of diving skill, professional-level leadership, strong dive theory knowledge, and is a well-rounded, seasoned diver. You'll learn to map dive sites, deliver polished skills demonstrations, and sharpen your rescue abilities. As a Divemaster, you'll supervise divers on fun dives, assist instructors with training, and independently run certain PADI programs. It's the most popular and widely recognised professional scuba certification in the world—paid work, doing what you love, for a planet that needs you.
The Divemaster rating is also your stepping stone to becoming a full PADI Instructor.
Built-In Conservation Credentials
Unlike a standard Divemaster course, the PADI Eco Divemaster course includes three PADI AWARE specialty certifications at no extra cost—so you finish not just as a leader, but as a trained ocean advocate:
- PADI AWARE Specialty — Understand the biggest threats facing our ocean and what divers can do about them.
- PADI Dive Against Debris Specialty — Learn to run citizen-science surveys that remove marine debris and report data that fuels real policy change.
- PADI Shark & Ray Conservation Specialty — Learn to identify and survey shark and ray species, and understand what it takes to protect these threatened animals.
You will leave this course able to lead not just dives, but purpose-driven dives. The Dive Against Debris clean-ups, shark and ray surveys, and conservation-themed experiences are what today's ocean-conscious divers are actively looking for.
Pre-requisites:
- A PADI Rescue diver (or equivalent rating from another organisation).
- Have logged at least 40 dives as documented by a personal logbook.
- Must be at least 18 years old at the start of the course.
- Must have completed an Emergency First Response course within two years of the start date, or have current CPR/First Aid training from another recognised training agency.

STEP 1 eLearning:
PADI eLearning for Divemaster Course
The PADI eLearning for Divemaster Course will take about 50 hours to complete. You will cover 9 theory topics online, including online assessments. These are the 9 theory topics:
1. The Role and Characteristics of the PADI DM.
2. Supervising Diving Activities.
3. Assisting with Students.
4. Dive Safety & Risk Management.
5. Divemaster Conducted Programs.
6. Specialised Skills and Activities.
7. The Business of Diving & Your Career.
8. Awareness of the Dive Environment.
9. Dive Theory Review.

Plus — Your 3 PADI AWARE eLearning Specialties
Complete the AWARE Specialty, Dive Against Debris Specialty, and Shark & Ray Conservation Specialty eLearning alongside your DM theory, building your conservation knowledge in parallel with your professional skills.
STEP 2 Confined Water (Pool Training):
4 Confined Water sessions are included. For Practical Assessment 1, there must be either (a) at least 1 real OWD student or (b) 4 mock OWD students. Additional pool sessions, if required, will be chargeable at S$ 150 per pool session per candidate (2 or more candidates) or S$ 180 per pool (1-to-1). Each pool will take about 6 hours.
STEP 3 Open Water Training:
6 Open Water sessions are included; however, the number of dives needed to complete the course will depend on the completion of the performance requirements. For the conduct of all practical assessments, each dive must have either (a) at least one real OWD student or (b) four mock OWD students. Depending on the number of candidates on each trip, as well as the performance of the candidates, the number of items completed may not be equivalent to the number of dives on that trip.
Duration:
- Two to six months; eLearning must be completed prior to the start of the DM course.
Course components:
- Stamina exercises.
- Knowledge development segments.
- Dive skills completion.
- Practical application skills (mapping, equipment exchange, divemaster-conducted programmes, student divers in training supervision).
- Complete a diver rescue assessment.
- Create an Emergency Assistance Plan for a given dive site.
- Complete an internship.

Price:
- 3 or more students in a class: S$ 2,850 per student.
- 2 students in a class: S$ 3,800 per student.
- 1-to-1 private class: S$ 5,000 per student.

- Briefing prior to start of course, either face-to-face or via zoom.
- 4 Confined Water sessions - conducted in pool.
- 6 Open Water sessions - conducted in local waters.
