PADI® Advanced Open Water Diver (AOWD) Course
PADI® Advanced Open Water Diver (AOWD) Course

You do not have to be “advanced” to take the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (AOWD) Course. It is designed to advance your diving, so you can start right after earning your PADI Open Water Diver certification.

You'll practice navigation and buoyancy, try deep diving and make three specialty dives of your choosing (it's like a specialty sampler platter). For every specialty dive you complete, you can earn credit toward PADISpecialty certifications.

Here are a few of the many options: Deep, Digital Underwater Photography, Dive Against Debris, Enriched Air Nitrox, Fish Identification, Night, Peak Performance Buoyancy (PPB), Search & Recovery, Underwater Navigation, and Wreck Diver. Check out the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) in Continue Learning for a complete list of specialty dive options.

Pre-requisites:

  1. Minimum age of 15 years old (or 10 years for Junior OWD)
  2. In reasonably good physical and mental health
  3. Ability to swim 200m continuously (without stopping) and float 10min on the surface of water without any aid/assistance
  4. Keen interest to have lots of fun!

Three Steps to Certification

STEP 1 Dive Theory Online:

Learn the basics of diving at your own pace through PADI eLearning. A total estimated time of 15 hours is required, including completion of all quizzes and the theory exam in the PADI eLearning program.

Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire - please note this compulsory Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire that has to be completed prior to any dive course. Read through the questions to ensure that you are able to answer NO to every question on Page 2. This is to highlight that there will be no refunds (including for medical reasons) after we make payment to PADI.

Note: If you answer YES to any question on Page 2, you will need a doctor's approval (on Page 3) prior to starting your course.

STEP 2 Confined Water (Pool Training):
Confined Water dives are optional in the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course. During this Confined Water session, we will go through some skills that you have learnt in your PADI Open Water Diver Course (e.g. being neutrally buoyant, neutral buoyancy swim, reciprocal compass navigation, and SMB deployment). We will prepare you for your Open Water dives by introducing you to new skills like natural navigation and compass navigation using the square pattern. Our Confined Water sessions are typically done over the weekends; however, we can arrange weekday sessions subject to instructor availability. Price varies based on the number of students.

STEP 3 Open Water Training:

After completing your eLearning (Step 1 above) and optional Confined Water dive (Step 2), you will make five Adventure Dives: a deep dive (beyond 18m), a navigation dive, and three additional Adventure Dives of your choice to earn your certification. You will find that the dives have fewer skills compared to your PADI Open Water Diver Course and you will have a lot more exploration - you will definitely be having a lot more fun!
