FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is kefir?

Kefir is a fermented milk drink, rich in live cultures and probiotics. It contains around 10 times more microbial species than yogurt, making it one of the most gut-nourishing fermented drinks you can have. It has a lightly sour, smooth taste and a natural slight effervescence.

What makes Kaho kefir different?

Our kefir is made at home in small batches, using organic milk and heirloom kefir grains over 50 years old. No additives, no preservatives, no shortcuts. Every bottle is bottled fresh, a few hours before collection.

What are kefir grains?

Kefir grains are living cultures made up of bacteria and yeasts. They look like small cauliflower florets and are what give kefir its rich, diverse probiotic profile. Our grains have been carefully maintained and passed down over 50 years.

How is your kefir made?

Our original kefir goes through a 12-hour first fermentation, followed by 10 hours chilled. Bottled a few hours before collection.

Is kefir suitable for people who are lactose intolerant?

During fermentation, most of the lactose in the milk is consumed by the cultures, making kefir much lower in lactose than regular milk. Many people who are lactose intolerant find kefir easier to digest, though individual responses vary. When in doubt, start with a small amount and see how your body responds.

Who can drink kefir?

Kefir is suitable for most people, including children and pregnant mothers. As with any new food, it's best to introduce it gradually. If you have a medical condition or are on medication, consult your doctor first.

Is it suitable for pets?

Yes, we offer a pet version for dogs and cats. Kefir supports digestive health, immunity, skin, and coat condition in furkids. Start with a small amount and increase gradually.

How much should I drink daily?

If you're new to kefir, start with 50–80ml a day and increase gradually as your gut adjusts.

How do I store it?

The live cultures are most active in the first 3–4 days — this is when your gut benefits the most. Keeps refrigerated for up to 2 weeks, though it will continue to ferment slowly, becoming more sour and fizzy over time.

How do I collect my order?

Our kefir is made to order in small batches. Collection is usually on Saturdays in the Bishan North area. Exact timing and location will be shared in your order confirmation email. As stock is limited each week, we recommend ordering early to avoid missing out.

Do you offer a subscription model?

Not at the moment, but it's something we're open to if there's enough interest. If you'd like to be a regular, drop us a message and we'll do our best to accommodate you.
